Thursday, October 29th, 2009Capt Adam’s ripping up the reef again on Iona II!
We headed out on Tuesday with the manager of all time from Scafflink Australia Steve (Fitzy) Fitzsimmons, Adam’s nephew Luke Jordan, Dale Green and Bob Edmond. Pumped up the guys were and lucky because Steve fought and successfully released a big girl, a black marlin 1100lb! Bob released a black marlin 350lb. We also jumped 4 black marlin and a sailfish off! The 2nd grander for Capt Adam on board the Iona II and Cuban cigars were the order of the night!

Bronze Whaler Shark Thanks Capt AJ
Success at No.8!
Sunday, September 27th, 2009Today we did leave fish to find fish and headed back to No.8 Ribbon Reef. It was the last day for the boys from Newcastle, so far 2 fish caught on their 1st day so they were really ready for some action today. Capt Adams last day too for a while before he heads off to Bali for some RnR with the family.
Capt Adam made the right decision to head back to No.8 and the boys prayers were answered with a 150lb black marlin for a very pumped Graham Ward and 40 minutes later a 200lb black marlin for Aaron Westwood, his 2nd black marlin for the trip!
The guys left the boat with big smiles and some great stories, sure we will see them back on the Iona II.
Capt Adam also had a smile on his dial, in his last 14 days of fishing he has raised 28 black marlin had 16 bites and caught 9 and 7 of them in the last 10 days!!! Great doing Capt AJ. He now hands the reigns of the Iona II to Capt Trent Visscher who has some big shoes to fill! He is one of the young guns of the Cairns Black Marlin Fleet his biggest fish he has been involved in catching is 1389lb lets see if we can beat that this season. We are excited at Trents return after his life threatening illness and he is chomping at the bit also to get out amongst the big girls on reefs of the GBR. Good luck Trento!
First client for the season for Capt Trent is Jean Paul Richard, many regular anglers to the GBR and Cairns crew will remember Jean Paul, he owned the beautiful French Look a 165ft mothership with 42ft game boat on board. Jean Paul will be accompanied by his wife on her first fishing trip and a 11 day fishing trip at that! We wish Jean Paul and his wife all the luck for their 11 days on board Iona II.

The Girls are Back! – No 8 Ribbon
Thursday, September 24th, 2009Heading out from Cooktown with Newcastle guys, Aaron, Graham, Peter & Jarrod on board our good feeling from the day before was confirmed with nice water & plenty of bait schools. Our decision to heard further up the Ribbons to No.8 was rewarded with a 150lb black marlin and a 400lb black marlin for Peter Kallinas. All up we raised 6, caught 2 and caught a tiger shark and a whaler and some tuna. Great fun had by all today even during a dust storm on the GBR! Even Rhino managed a smile and wave for the camera during the fight!

Heading up the Ribbons
Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009Left our regular haunt “The Bus Stop” to head up the track to give the boys a bit of diversity with the fishing. Making it to number Ribbon Reef No.5 on Wednesday on the trip up we mainly did some reef fishing and caught loads of coral trout and reds, nice feed for the boys to take home. We enjoyed some light tackle for mackeral and tuna but rarely went out on the shelf, the water was like a milk pond.
Fortunately Wednesday things started to improve, the water was clearing and looking good and we marked a couple. Unfortunate for the boys as it was the last day of their trip and we were heading into Cooktown. 4 days enjoyed by all on board though!
The Bus Stop Fires (again) – Linden Bank
Saturday, September 19th, 2009Being the last day fishing for Bundy and the boys we headed out early to maximise on the tides and catch the morning bite. We raised 2 and caught a black marlin around 400lb.
A very successful trip and the boys had a ball! Not sure how many of those cartons are left!
Reluctantly we leave our regular haunt tomorrow with regular client Chris Dwyer on board. We will start heading up the track a bit to do a mixture of light tackle sportfishing and marlin fishing in the middle ribbons but we will be back at ”The Bus Stop”
“The Bus Stop” Linden Bank
Friday, September 18th, 2009Trolling the Bus Stop again with big baits Capt Adam was hoping to find a big girl to match yesterdays effort!
Because of the tide scenario the bite has been in the morning, we raised 4 small fish, they didn’t have a chance downing our big baits but we did manage to catch one! Although the crew wanted to switch to smaller baits to maximise on catching the smaller fish Capt Adam being a self proclaimed “big bait specialist” gave the order from the bridge not to saying if he wanted to catch fish that size he would have stayed in Port Stephens!!!
1 from 4 lets see what tomorrow brings with the morning bite!

The biggest fish for the season so far at “The Bus Stop” Linden Bank
Thursday, September 17th, 2009Bundy & the boys boarded the boat with 11 cartons of beer and one poor guy with a suspected broken ankle from the night before! Was this going to be a fishing trip or booze cruise we thought!
Waking the boys up before lunch, bellowing from the bridge came Capt AJ’s ”nice fish” This got the boys to their feet, a huge swipe at the bait and after a great fight and some spectaular jumps a nice 650lb black marlin was released! The big girls have arrived and our first heavy tackle fish for the season and the biggest one for the fleet so far!!!
We also pulled the bait from another nice fish and raised 2 more.
The boys will be getting into those cartons tonight and well deserved!

“The Car Park” Linden Bank
Tuesday, September 15th, 2009Capt Adam fishing at his favourite haunt ”The Bus Stop” as he likes to call it raised a nice fish and jumped off a 300lb black marlin. Great to see the fish are turning up. Reg and the boys had a great first day marlin fishing, for some of the boys it was their first experience marlin fishing so even seeing the 300lber jump off caused a lot of excitement.
Lets see what tomorrow brings!
