Capt Trent’s turn to Fire!

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Though late its late in the season and most boats are still fishing Linden Bank Capt Trent on board Iona made a very wise decision to leave the pack and find his own honey hole in the middle ribbons. Arranging our clients to depart from Cooktown paid off considerably for Trent with 15 black marlin in 9 days fishing up to 950lb!

19th-21st November

Dave Teasal & Robert Millis would have been more than impressed with their 3 day charter. Capt Trent putting them the hot spots they tagged & released 5 black marlin up to 950lb. These included an 800lb, 600lb and a couple of smaller black marlin. Needless to say Dave and Robert are keen to return to Capt Trent and the Iona!

22nd-24th November

Craig Green and the guys also had a memorable trip with Trent on board Iona also releasing 5 black marlin in 3 days up to 700lb. Trents on Fire!

25th-27th November
Paul Bradford’s surprise 60th birthday present to his dad Allan, a 3 day charter on board Iona with Capt Trent, was more than well received with 5 black marlin up to 500lb. After celebrating their first day on board Iona with more than a few cold ones the boys were a bit more careful on the 2nd day of their charter! A great time was had by all and happy 60th to Allan!

Capt Adam Blitzing the Bus Stop (again)

Noel Dowd's 1050lb Black Marlin

Noel Dowd's 1050lb Black Marlin

15th-18th November
There’s no doubting Capt Adam’s decision to consistently head back to the Bus Stop and why when his results there are outstanding!

Adam on board Iona II departing on Sunday at the leisurely hour of 11am with Newcastle connection on board, Brad Godden, Noel Dowd, Glen Miller and John headed in the same direction the Bus Stop at Linden Bank. We are pretty sure the Iona II knows how to get there now without Adam at the helm!! After a couple of slow days on Sunday and Monday the boys were blessed with an incredible day’s fishing. Adam circling his usual grounds, his dedication rewarded again with a very active 800lb black marlin for John and a very nice girl for Noel Dowd at 1050lb! First time marlin fishing for these guys and believe us they will be back! Again Adam fishing with several other boats in the area had all the action bar one boat that caught a 900lbr. All eyes were on the Iona II action and Adam didn’t disappoint. John’s 800lb fish had a change of character leaving part of her bill in the transom of the Iona II, she won’t be forgetting the Iona II too quickly. Rhino got some great shots (cover material) of the action (see below though not great quality from mobile but we will post on site soon).
A few coldys were enjoyed last night and no tall stories were needed here with the great pics and videos to tell the story! Can’t wait for the action today!

Destination North for Capt Trent

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Heading out of Cooktown on Saturday with his mate and ex deckhand/captain James “Jimbo” Bladin, Capt Trent on board Iona made a wise decision to head to the northern ribbons up to No.10 Ribbon Reef. So far in the 4 days of the 5 day charter today being the last day he has successfully released 3 black marlin 700lb, 750lb and a nice 950lb yesterday. Well done Trento! Lets hope the last day today brings them some more joy!

The Battles Over!

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Sorry for the lack of updates during The Battle of the Iona’s but unfortunately the fishery shut down in the middle ribbons and there was nothing to report for a few days. Capt Adam on Iona II frustrated with the slow fishing in the middle ribbons made the decision to head back to his regular haunt the Bus Stop and Capt Trent on Iona headed in the opposite direction to the northern ribbons. Adam was happy with the outcome of heading back to the Bus Stop at Linden Bank and released a 400lb black marlin. Unfortunately Trent had no luck up north and the Battle ended in a 1 all draw with 1 fish each. Not too many tall stories to tell out of this battle!

Start of the Battle of the Iona’s!

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Finally the guys on both Iona and Iona II got into phone range and we have an update for the challenge of Capt Adam & Capt Trent!

Sunday 8th November
Capt Trent on the original Iona, warmed up Sunday with a 300lb black marlin. This gave the guys with Trent a taste of what was to come on Monday!

Monday 9th November
The day goes to Capt Trent with a nice 850lb black marlin at Ribbon Reef No.3. Good on ya Trento!!!
Adam jumped 2 off. Trento in the lead with 1 black marlin. Both boats will head up to No.5 tomorrow to keep an eye on each other of course!

The Battle of the Iona’s

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

The battle to end all battles starts tomorrow between the two Iona’s. A friendly tournament run between the 2 boats with regular client Chris Dwyer and mates on board for the next 5 days. Capt Adam on board the Iona II will be chomping at the bit to get to his regular haunt the “Bus Stop” tomorrow morning to get points on the board! No doubt he will have Robbie and the crew up at sparrows to get them out there for an early morning’s catch of fresh bait for the big battle! Pumped he will be to get out there after a couple of days back in Newcastle. Get ready with that camera Rhino!

Capt Trent on the Iona has had his day practice today, not that he needed much with the 14 black marlin caught in the last 6 days! Lets hope Trent keeps firing to make the battle a cracker!

Stay tuned to the Iona Blog for Battle of the Iona’s each day. Good luck guys bring it on!!!

Capt Trent Fires!!! 6 days 14 back marlin

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

2n-7th November
After repairs to the genset onboard Iona in Cooktown we were anxious to get back out amongst them. With Les & Greg high with anticipation for their 6 day charter with Capt Trent we headed in the direction of the middle ribbons. We fished the middle ribbons down to Escape and our decision to head to the Bank was well rewarded with 5 black marlin for the day up to 650lb on Friday, what a day way to go Trento!!! Saturday we released a 200lb black marlin totalling 14 black marlin in 6 days fishing the biggest being 850lb. Celebrating with a few cold ones last night reflecting on the last 6 days fishing gave the boys reason to feel a little dusty this morning.

Firing again at Linden Bank

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

2nd-5th November

After picking up US client Richard Lazzara from the airport and later his fishing buddy Ollie from Switzerland we headed out at 3pm to the almighty Bus Stop, Capt Adam’s consistent fishing ground. 3 nights on the reef and 3 days of entertainment and good fishing we released 3 black marlin from 6 up to 550lb. We had heaps up and saw a real monster that we couldn’t entice!

Linden Bank “Bus Stop”

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Saturday 31st October
On board Iona II with Capt Adam, Jeff & Judy Cooke from Rockhampton tolerated 25 knots for a days fishing but we made it as comfortable as possible and headed down sea. We jumped a black marlin off which Judy was stoked with. Unfortunately sea sickness got the better of Judy and after catching a couple of dolphin fish we called it a day at 1pm.

Lizard Island Tournament Re-cap

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Congratulations to Sharky on board Mauna Kea who took out the Lizard Island Tournament with 11 tagged and released black marlin. Well done!

Mark and the boys had a great time with Capt Trent on board Iona with 7 black marlin (1 had to be disqualified) one of them a nice 1050lb and another 950lb. Unfortunately we lost one day of the tournament as the generator failed and the guys decided the boxes of fresh reef fish to take home to the families was more important than fishing another day of the tournament so we headed into Cooktown at the end of day 6. All in all though great fishing and a great time had by all.
