Triple Header Sunday!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Capt Adam ventured out to his usual haunt off Newcastle on Sunday with Darren Mehan and the boys from NCIG on board the Iona. The Iona II had a bit of a mishap so we brought the old girl down from Foster and it was good to see she still is a great fish raising machine. We had a bite on a lure from a striped marlin straight up and then an actioned packed triple header which saw us release a nice striped marlin. The boys were stoked and had a great day. We have some hot shots to follow.

We are taking the Iona II out to Lord Howe Island next week for Capt Trent Visscher’s wedding. Should be a great trip and looking forward to finding a few hot spots on the way and also around Lord Howe.

After Trent’s wedding we will be heading north with the Iona II to Airlie Beach as we have plenty of scaffolding work after Cyclone Ilui and will be based there for a few months before we head further north to Cairns for the Giant Black Marlin Season which we are heavily booked for already.  Still have some time available so get in quick for our very competitive rates!

We wish Trent and his lovely lady Brooke all the best for their special day and best fishes to them both!!!!

Newcastle Bus Stop Fish Frenzy

Monday, March 15th, 2010

On Saturday Capt AJ steered the Iona II to his regular haunt the Newcastle Bus Stop with business partner & ex Rugby League star Robbie McCormack ’s brother Greg McCormack and his colleagues from Bengalla Coal Mining. The boys started off a bit green, not sure why the seas weren’t that bad! Well we certainly kept their minds off the possibility of meeting Chuck & Ralph with an unbelievable day’s fishing.

We raised 13 fish and caught 6, 4 black marlin & 2 striped marlin. The day was one of the most promising of the season so far and after 5 1/2 hours fishing we were back in port & in front of the TV watching the Knights play with a few cold stubbies. We could have had double numbers if we stayed out but the boys did great holding themselves (or stomachs) together as long as they did and had a great day’s fishing! Good on ya guys & Capt AJ.

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Cracker of a day! Reggie and the boys were impressed. Capt Trent is out today amongst the 200 or so boats in the Interclub Tournament, we will have an update in the morning.

Firstly a belated Merry Xmas and all the best for a happy healthy and successful New Year from us at Iona.

Sorry for the lack of updates as we have been enjoying a bit of rnr after a very successful Cairns Giant Black Marlin Season on both the Iona and Iona II.

Capt Trent had an outstanding Cairns Season with 62 black marlin released in his 60 days of charter!  10of these over the 800lb mark and 1 over the magical 1000lb mark at 1050lb.  Well done Trento a great season.

Capt Adam also had a very successful Cairns Season fishing only 28 days and tagging and releasing 23 black marlin. 3 of these over the 1000lb mark, a very nice 1200lb black marlin, an 11oolb black marlin and a 1050lb black marlin which gun deckhand Rhino got some some amazing shots of.   What a cracka of a season for Adam we think he should get Rookie of the year!!!
