Sorry for the lack of updates guys we had a major gremlin in our blog page and it has finally been rectified! You can always follow us on facebook as well.
We had an awesome 2012 Cairns Giant Black Marlin Season with many black marlin around & over the 1000lb mark. Many ecstatic & satisfied clients that are coming back to fish with us this season or the 2014 season.
Capt AJ fished the Port Macquarie Golden Lure Tournament and succeeded in winning champion female angler for Sue Ahlers off Hellraiser. Steve & Sue made the long drive south from Cooktown to fish with us and we had a great week at Port Macquarie. We have been fishing off Newcastle/Port Stephens since then end of January and have some very productive days with black, blue & striped marlin. Capt Trent Visscher was out on Saturday and had 2 black marlin on and a blue marlin and then a double header of 2 blue marlin one of which he boated for our clients. (photo below) It was a a great return to the helm of the Iona II for Trent , well done!! We are booking up very quickly for the 2013 Cairns Giant Black Marlin Season so if you are interested in fishing with us this year get in quick. We are also operating share day charters & share live-aboard charters on our 43ft vessel at a very reasonable rate contact us for available dates & rates.
This season we are also offering mothership packages in conjunction with the Phoenix One a luxury 114ft motor yacht. See our mothership packages page for further details. Well its good to be back on the blog we will keep you updated on our upcoming fishing results however this weekend is not looking good weather wise unfortunately so stay tuned & keep up with us on fb.

Day 2 of Jim Sullivan’s charter & he was his turn in the chair! Capt AJ weaved his magic & we caught a very nice 900lb plus black marlin for Jim. Swimming along with it was also a nice fish around 600lb. Congrats to Jim.
Next on strike was Jen, John’s wife, & we caught her a 400lb black marlin. Way to go Jen. Three black marlin in two days & 2 around & over the magical 1000lb mark. Capt AJ & the Iona II crew on fire……. Check out Rhino’s pic below & a shot of Capt AJ backing up courtesy of the Mistress …

We left Cairns Thursday with American clients Jim & Kathleen Sullivan & brother John & Jen Sullivan. Capt AJ certainly pointed the boat in the right direction and caught his grander for the season a 1100lb black marlin for John Sullivan, woo too!! Congrats to John! After the Younan family’s trip we headed out for a day charter on Sunday with Chris & Jade Frazer unfortunately the fish gods weren’t kind to us so we couldn’t produce for the Frazers, sorry guys.
We headed out Monday night from Cairns with Marcus Green, Dave Messenger & Co all ready for an early morning bite yesterday. Just as our patience was running out we managed to catch a 550lb black marlin for Marcus Green. Check out Rhino’s great pics & awesome video.

After Capt AJ’s Bali holiday we headed out last week for a 5 day charter but unfortunately missed the big bite, boats reported several black marlin around & over the magical 1000lb mark. We managed to catch 2 small black marlin for the trip.
We headed out from Cairns yesterday with Gold Coasters John, Paul, David & grandson Jacob Younan & friend from Sydney Rob. Capt AJ made the right decision to fish his regular haunt rewarded with a 550lb black marlin for Rob. Some great pics & video from Rhino…

We’ve proven again September is a very productive time on the GBR off Cairns for all types of fishing, GT’s, black marlin, sailfish & our reef fish. In the 14 days of fishing (& 5 days of that was reef fishing) we raised 9 black marlin, had 6 bites & caught 4, the biggest 500lb. Capt AJ now in Bali having some well earned R&R after a big year with developments & work commitments. We will be back on the reef in October ready to take on the big girls ………

Our 2 day trip with Bowral’s father & sons Peter, Mick & Steve was awesome a 400lb black marlin for Mick & a 500lb black marlin for Peter. We also raised a couple of smaller ones. Capt AJ on fire early in the season!
