Newcastle Bus Stop Fish Frenzy

Monday, March 15th, 2010

On Saturday Capt AJ steered the Iona II to his regular haunt the Newcastle Bus Stop with business partner & ex Rugby League star Robbie McCormack ’s brother Greg McCormack and his colleagues from Bengalla Coal Mining. The boys started off a bit green, not sure why the seas weren’t that bad! Well we certainly kept their minds off the possibility of meeting Chuck & Ralph with an unbelievable day’s fishing.

We raised 13 fish and caught 6, 4 black marlin & 2 striped marlin. The day was one of the most promising of the season so far and after 5 1/2 hours fishing we were back in port & in front of the TV watching the Knights play with a few cold stubbies. We could have had double numbers if we stayed out but the boys did great holding themselves (or stomachs) together as long as they did and had a great day’s fishing! Good on ya guys & Capt AJ.

Capt Adam Fires Again!

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Friday Capt Adam took out Reggie and the boys and again he produced the goods for the boys and tagged & released an 80kg striped marlin and a 120kg blue marlin and lost another 2 striped marlin. Cracker of a day! Reggie and the boys were impressed. Capt Trent is out today amongst the 200 or so boats in the Interclub Tournament, we will have an update in the morning.

Striped Marlin Galore!

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Capt Adam went out Friday another successful day with 7 bites and 4 striped marlin. We got some great footage to follow shortly.

Reports from the Port Stephens Interclub sound promising with a few boats tagging 4 marlin on the first day of the tournament. We aren’t fishing in it this year unfortunately too many other business commitments keeping us off the water. We will be back out on Thursday and Friday.

9 from 11 & a Grand Slam what a day!

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Yesterday Capt Adam took 6 American clients out from Newcastle and fished his regular haunt (the Newcastle Bus Stop we’re calling it) and it paid off well! What a cracker of day we raised 11 and caught 9. 7 striped marlin, 1 nice blue marlin and a black marlin. All three billfish species in the one day, a Grand Slam, the first one for the Port Stephens/Newcastle Season. Well done Capt AJ.

We will be out again on Tuesday so hopefully it will still be firing.

Golden Lure Tournament Wrap Up

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Unfortunately we weren’t successful in taking out the capture division of the Gold Lure Tournament in Port MacQuarie. We were placed 4th.

Carnage won the capture division with 2 marlin weighed, 1 blue marlin and a striped marlin. Followed by Fitzy on Wave Rider.

Renegade took out the tag & release division.

We had heaps of fun during the tournament raising 13 blues, we only managed to hook 5 and caught the one blue at 138kg on 30lb tackle. We had a nice striped marlin on 20lb but unfortunately broke the line during the fight. On the last day of the tournament we had a blue marlin on estimated at 150kg on 20lb but we couldn’t set the hook.

Rhino in transit with the Iona II from Port MacQuarie to Newcastle pulled out the big guns, the 130lb outfits and hooked 2 from 3 blue marlin proving that when the line class is increased you have a lot more opportunities to set the hooks.

17 marlin raised in 5 days it proves the Iona II is the fish raising machine!

We are out tomorrow with friends and business acquaintances Noel Dowd from Newcastle and Al Wright from the Gold Coast.
Should be a cracker of a trip, stay tuned.
